As with all boots and shoes, over time they can start to lose their shine, become grubby and generally look a little worse for wear. However, with a few simple tips, maintaining your Rockport footwear couldn't be easier; and with a few minutes spent every so often to ensure your Rockport's are clean and polished, they can lead a long and healthy life.

Gore-tex Linings

This part of the shoe or boot is one that can often go untouched when it comes to cleaning, but to reduce bacteria, odours and so on, you should clean the insides of your shoes and boots by rubbing clean with a damp cloth. Always dry naturally after, by hanging outside for example.

Shoe Inserts

Remove any inserts from your shoes and wash with warm water and a scrubbing brush. Again, these should be left to dry naturally before wear. Important - do not dry in a tumble dryer unless specified as this could reduce the performance of them.

L eather Shoes

Clean your shoes with a damp cloth to remove any excess dirt before you polish these, and always allow for them to dry fully before you begin to polish.

Suede and Nubuck Shoes

To clean, use a nubuck/suede eraser. To return the material of your Rockport shoes to normal, a specialised brush can be used to restore the texture. Silicon sprays can also be used to protect your shoes; but always check the manufacturers label to ensure that the leather will not be darkened during this process.

Fabric Uppers

Scrub the fabric upper of your Rockport shoes with warm water, always being careful to avoid any leather that may also feature on the upper of your shoe.

Outsoles

This part of the shoe is the most likely to become the most dirty, so wiping with a damp cloth or brushing after use will ensure that the dirt isn't allowed to build up.

Protecting Your Rockport Shoes

Before you begin wearing your Rockports, it is a good idea to add additional protection to them. Silicon sprays are ideal for leather shoes to help protect them from water and stains. However, you should always ensure the material of your shoes are compatible with the leather as it could darken the leather. It is also important to check that any sprays you do use will not affect the waterproofing treatment your shoes may have received.

Drying Your Rockport Shoes

When it comes to drying your shoes you should always dry them naturally, stuffing with newspaper if necessary. Never dry your shoes in front of artificial heat forms, e.g. fires/radiators as this can reduce the quality of your shoes and damage the leather.

Resting Your Rockport Shoes

Over time or with excessive wear, your shoes could become moist and damp with perspiration and other moisture. Therefore, it is important to allow your shoes time to rest to restore them to their natural quality and give them time to recover.

Shoe Trees

Use shoe trees within your shoes when you are not wearing your Rockport shoes, or particularly if you aren't going to be wearing them for a while. This will help to maintain the shape of your shoes, providing maximum comfort.

Shoe Horns

Never force your Rockport shoes onto your feet as this could damage the back of your shoe. If you do find that you struggle to get your shoe on, you should adopt the use of a shoe horn.

Machine Washing

You should never machine wash your Rockport shoes unless clearly stated on the manufacturer guidelines. Always adopt a different method of cleaning if necessary.
