Timberland have always been one step ahead of many of their competitors since the invention of their first waterproof boot all the way back in 1973. Timberland is a worldwide respected brand, known widely for their rugged, traditional boots ideal for any terrain outdoors. However, entering 2011 their Spring collection has been defined with a twist; making their collection even more hard-wearing and water-resistant than ever before.
Timberland have introduced the all-new Bionic® canvas and ion-mask™ technology by P2i into several styles; creating innovative new footwear whilst also retaining their traditional style.
The stylish new collection of their boots has allowed Timberland to maintain their brand philosophy of being environmentally friendly, as well as providing their customers with exceptional shoes of style and practicality.

Speaking about their new range, Timberland's Senior Director of Marketing for North America said:
"Canvas is known for being tough but also lightweight and breathable – perfect attributes for spring and summer outdoor adventures...But it has also had its limitations...until now. Timberland is excited to bring innovation to canvas footwear this spring, making it tougher than ever and highly resistant to water and stains, without sacrificing breathability. That means these shoes will withstand the elements even better, and stay looking great even longer."
Bionic® canvas is a unique material that is made from 50% organic cotton which is then wrapped around 38% recycled PET core and 12% HT polyester. This innovative material has only been used by Timberland thus far who recognised the benefits of this double helix structure, which has properties enabling it to be 30% stronger than an ordinary canvas, without removing any of the physical or appearance qualities of a natural cotton canvas. It also dries 30% faster than 100% cotton canvas; is twice as abrasion-resistant and retains its breathability. Canvas is also a must-have material within footwear for Spring 2011. Interestingly, the Bionic® company is also co-owned by Pharrell Williams, producer and musician.
Ion-mask Technology™ by P2i further extends the excellent properties of the canvas with its liquid repellent nano-coating technology. This innovative technology is completely invisible and weightless once added to the shoe, being a thousand times thinner than a human hair but so efficient that water is turned into beads and rolls straight off the shoe upon contact. With its invisible properties comes the advantage of it being able to retain the natural airflow of the shoe material - this keeps the wearers feet dry and comfortable, maintains the temperature of the shoe with its breathability and resists the water from the outside.
