Nigella Lawson has been captured in more than one unflattering picture during her visit to Australia to film the new season of MasterChef. She was first pictured wearing a burkini (a swimsuit designed for Muslim women) on the beach, which covered her from head to toe in an all-in-one suit with a peak cap to go with it. However, she is back in the Daily Mail today with some painful looking bunions.
Many are now blaming her love of high-heels, as Lawson even admitted that stilettos were even a part of her bedroom seduction routine! A bunion is created at the bony bump at the bottom of the big toe joint, and cause incredible pain when it becomes inflamed and shoes rub against them. This can be made even worse if high-heels are worn as the body weight is pushed further forward, causing these bunions to rub even more.
However, her decision to opt for comfortable sandals, such as the FitFlop Electra with stylish sequins, is perhaps due to extensive surgery that is required to remove bunions. A bunionectomy surgery involves cutting in the joint of the toe before realigning the toe bone, putting it back in place using screws. After surgery, patients have to take time off work, and aren't allowed to wear heels for several months following the procedure.
Appearing unashamed of her bunions (after all they are a very common foot ailment in women and show her dedication to heels) could perhaps be something to do with other celebrities who have also suffered from the same complaint. Victoria Beckham is another famous bunion victim, perhaps not a surprise after she has hardly ever been pictured without her sky-high heels. However, when asked about them she also played down the severity of them, saying:
“The attention on my feet really was embarrassing. I think I'll have to have the surgery, but I've heard it's most painful. They touched it up to make it look worse. If [my feet] were as bad as all that, I wouldn't be able to wear these fabulous shoes by Brain Atwood.”
However, if Nigella's bunions are as painful as they look, the FitFlop Electra was a good idea!
