“Blooming” - the blooming process within Hunter wellingtons is a completely natural one, and is inevitable during the lifetime of your wellies. When this process occurs, white or blue marks may appear on the surface, which is the 100% natural protective wax releasing. The wax is used during the vulcanization (rubber treatment) process and if it does bloom to the surface, it will not affect the overall performance of the boot.
There are various different methods that are thought to help reduce the blooming affect and prolong the life of your Hunter wellies:
After Use:
-
Using lukewarm soapy water (never use solvents), wipe your wellies and leave to dry naturally.
-
It has been suggested that washing your wellies with a cup of lukewarm water mixed with some liquid detergent removes dirt efficiently, but for more stubborn dirt, the use of a teaspoon of baking powder mixed in a cup of lukewarm water should work.
-
Ensure your wellies are free of dirt, in the sole and in particular if you have a zip on your wellingtons.
-
Hunter have also produced a UV Tech Cleaner that could help maintain and preserve the wellies, both their colour and flexibility.
Storing:
-
Store your wellies in a dry, cool and dark place; always ensuring that the wellies are not damp when placed into storage.
-
Do not store in areas of direct sunlight, or artificial light as this could reduce the longevity of the rubber.
-
Try not to store them outside as this could cause them to crack as they dry up.
-
Keep your wellies upright and unfolded as any creases could cause cracking in your wellies over a long period of time. If you are concerned that your wellies are naturally folding over, then try stuffing them with tissue paper to keep them stiff and upright.
-
An ideal place to store your beloved wellies is the Hunter Boot Bag.
Further Advice:
-
As with any type of footwear, with increased usage there is a higher risk of slipping and less grip with frequent use. Therefore, before purchasing your Hunter wellies, if you think you will require higher performance wellingtons, then why not opt for the Hunter Balmoral range.
-
If your wellies are of a gloss finish then you may feel as though the shine fades after some time. To regain this shine, try buffing your wellies with a soft cloth.
-
If your wellies are frequently exposed to things such as; solvents, animal fats and oils then this can cause the rubber to swell, which can again increase the risk of slipping.
-
Hunter wellies do contain natural rubber and some people may be allergic to this product.
Hunter provide the wellingtons with the fantastic reputation of being reliable, sturdy and able to survive all of the elements. Therefore, with a little tender loving care, there is no reason why your Hunter wellingtons shouldn't live a long and happy life come rain, snow or high waters!
