The four basic principles of Red Wing are as follows: Comfort, Craftsmanship, Quality and Durability. Adhering to an original philosophy of striving to create the perfect working boots, Red Wing continue to adhere to the following craftsmanship within their boots:
Leather Inspection
Evidently, in order to create a boot of exceptional high-quality and durability, one of the key ingredients lies in the leather. Thus, Red Wing ensure they use only the finest of leathers, which is perhaps why their trust lies with their life-long partner of S.B.Foot Tanning. Inspecting every inch of the leather to be used, the craftsmen look for the flexibility, durability and quality within the leather before use.
Cutting
The premium leather hides are then cut into relevant pieces before they are inspected again to ensure the highest standard is continued.
Stitching
To provide the best of fits all of the leather pieces are stamped and formed before being stitched together. Again, all leather is tested and inspected at this stage to ensure the quality hasn't been affected during production.
Lasting
A stage that is carried out in majority by hand (as with all stages), the shoe is formed onto a temporary last in order to obtain the correct shape of the foot before the insole is attached.
Bottoming
The stage in which one of the durable soles is permanently attached to the shoe, and to insure durability the shoe will be tested again at this stage.
Finishing
During this stage the shoe will be cleaned, trimmed and treated before each is subjected to a hand inspection to ensure the boot is ready to continue on.
Final Inspection
To completely ensure the high-quality and durability of the boot, they are all inspected for the last time, with everything from the stitches to their soles, everything is repeatedly checked before being boxed up and sent off to retailers.
