Looking at the footwear market, Think! realised that they needed to re-think the materials and production that goes into their shoes in order to make their shoes as comfortable as possible.
Rather than try and look for new techniques and designs for production, Think! have instead reverted back to a traditional shoemakers techniques, as the time and care that they dedicated to the production of their shoes allowed them to create shoes that allow freedom for the feet and a shoe that contours to every part of the foot. Using lasts, the shoes are carefully moulded to each one, before being left on these last for several hours in order to ensure that the shoe fits and will last for its entire life.
When it comes to materials, Think! offer a unique guarantee that whenever ones foot is placed within the shoe your foot will only be coming into contact with a 100% vegetable tanned leather.
Think! have created shoes that are both unique and bewitching in everything they are and do, from the fashionable uppers to every individual sole. Think! obtain their natural tanning products from trees that have been planted in plantations, using their bark extracts. It is this use of leather that is vegetable-tanned that really does show Think!s dedication to providing the highest quality products for their customers, as this type of leather is more costly than others but offers properties that are more beneficial to their shoes.
Vegetable-tanned leather is:
-
Toxin-free - the leather will not come into contact with any poisonous substances, such as aluminium, quicksilver and so on.
-
Porous - allowing the foot to breathe, making it a fantastic environment for the foot.
-
Moisture-absorbing - the leather will absorb any humidity created when walking, to help maintain a healthy, odourless environment for the foot.
-
Hypoallergenic - no colours are used within the leather that contain any heavy metal.
Thus, with such beneficial properties, Think! will use this material, if possible, where the wearers foot will come into contact with the shoe. What's more, the bark extracts that are used are a fantastic way of recycling waste products from tree plantations.
The majority of the European tanneries that provide the leather for Think! shoes have been certified and proved to be environmentally and socially impeccable. This means that Think! use leather that is a bi-product from cows used for food processing. The rawhides from these cows aren't then unnecessarily preserved in chemical additives in order to reduce transport costs, rather their rawhides are transported with the use of cold chains and salt, which still provides a healthy, organic way of transporting the rawhides.
When it comes to the soles of the shoes; a natural latex is used alongside the leather and recyclable PU. This natural latex is obtained from a hevea tree (often nicknamed the rubber tree) and is yielded by tapping into the vessels where the sap is then collected into buckets; a process which doesn't harm the trees. The hevea tree is normally able to provide the sap for 20 years before it continues its natural growth. The natural properties of the latex found in the trees give Think! shoes soles a skid-proof, durable and abrasive quality.
Think!s insoles are made from 99% cork which allows for a contouring ability to the foot, naturally forming a comfortable, unique footprint that will provide maximum support for the wearers feet.
Therefore, it is evident, that with Think!s re-think, they have, where possible, begun to provide their customers with shoes that use the most natural of materials, emphasising their love for everything organic and enabling them to provide shoes that are more than just environmentally friendly. What's more, all packaging is made from recyclable cardboard and paper.
